Synopsis:
Panic was not allowing taping during the majority of this winter tour due to the “potential release of a live recording.” Still waiting for that one I suppose. So…taper snuck in home analog deck through side door of venue. Supposedly duct-taped the single stereo mic to the side wall. Hid deck under jackets. Go figure. The entire show, with the exception of Tie Your Shoes in set 2, was taped. I am unsure why the tape cuts here. It is on the master analog as well. The cut occurs near the 39 minute mark so it is likely due to the impending tape flip. Still….you would think…..However, this is the only set I acquired in the fall of 1995. I transferred this tape primarily for the novelty and uniqueness of the set opener. Although the show was indeed a smoker, it is doubtful you will make it through a full listen.
Enjoy it for what it is.

Song Origin Compiled by Burnthday: Greta

greta

If you head out on Chase Street toward the chicken plant, it’s an unsuspecting but correct route to the site of more inner workings of the Panic machine – the warehouse that houses all of the band’s equipment and the various merchandise offerings.

Inside the little storefront attached to the warehouse, it’s clear you’ve found a happy place. Colorful Widespread Panic posters a
dorn the walls, shelves are a rainbow of T-shirts, hats, CDs, DVDs and stickers. You’ll no doubt be greeted by a black and white, blue-eyed dog named Tootie who, with a shy but cheerful wag, offers a toy to visitors who stop in.

Tootie belongs to the smiling Greta Bettis, whose co-workers describe her as a “Jack of all trades.” Fans might wonder if she’s the same “Greta” referred to in the song title from 1997’s “Bombs and Butterflies,” and she confirms indeed she is.

“It’s a funny song,” she says with a laugh.

What does it take to keep the band playing? An army at home
